Soil, while in nature, is a slowly renewable resource. The modern agricultural practices applied not only do not allow its regeneration but highly contribute to its degradation.

As soil conservation, we define the group of practices and techniques applied to protect and restore the soil ecosystem. More specifically, the different practices may focus on the restoration and protection of soil health, fertility, productivity, and biodiversity and the decrease of soil erosion (salinization, compaction, etc.). Except for the goals mentioned above, soil conservation focuses on the management of surface runoff and the protection of bare soil surfaces and downstream water resources (from pollution and sedimentation).
