Italy's olive oil market

The ICQRF published its Frantoio Italia report No. 9/2026 on 9 October, with stocks at 30 September of 195,044 tonnes, against 132,951 tonnes a year earlier. Extra virgin made up 150,203 tonnes, or 77% of the total, 66.9% more than in September 2025. Extra virgin of Italian origin rose to 82,195 tonnes from 30,381 tonnes, an increase of 170.5%.

Stocks fell 16.4% from the 233,377 tonnes recorded at 31 July. The ministry's list of Frantoio Italia reports has no report for 31 August, so the fall covers two months of sales. These are stocks at the close of the campaign, before the new crop is milled.

Current quotations (Oleista, week 41):

  • EVOO: €4.37/kg
  • VOO: €3.20/kg
  • Lampante: €2.77/kg

Spain's olive oil market

Poolred data for 3 to 9 October, compiled by COAG Jaén, put extra virgin at €3.20/kg, virgin at €3.01/kg and lampante at €2.93/kg, with an average of €3.09/kg across all grades. COAG notes that very few trades took place because the harvest is only starting. Its week runs on different days from the Poolred week that ASAJA-Jaén publishes, so the two series are not directly comparable.

Infaoliva quoted extra virgin at €3.1/kg on 13 October, virgin at €2.99/kg and lampante at €2.88/kg, against €3.183/kg for extra virgin on 2 October. The Almazaras Federadas de Córdoba quoted extra virgin at €3.05/kg on 13 October.

On 8 October ASAJA, COAG, UPA and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias wrote to minister Luis Planas asking for the urgent publication of the olive oil marketing standard for 2026/27. The standard would use Article 167a of the EU's common market organisation and oblige mills to store a share of their oil, with the share set later by a ministry resolution. The organisations put extra virgin at about €3.30/kg and say lampante, the lowest grade of virgin oil, has fallen to €2.90/kg.

According to Agrodigital, the bottlers' association ANIERAC and the exporters' association ASOLIVA oppose the measure as counterproductive and cite a report by the competition authority CNMC on the risks of restricting supply. Planas has said the decision will come in the first half of November.

The Andalusian agriculture ministry's weekly crop report for 28 September to 4 October says rain is late in Jaén and the fruit is shrivelling in some rain-fed groves. It expects the first early-harvest oils in the second half of October. AICA had not published its September data, with the final 2025/26 carryover, by 14 October.

The sale of Deoleo by the funds CVC and Alchemy is still open, and reports based on unnamed sources differ on the offers. El Español reported on 7 October that Coricelli offered €500 million and Dcoop about €460 million in cash, with Acesur offering a similar amount with a variable part. Expansión, as reported by Distribución Actualidad, gives Dcoop more than €470 million and Acesur almost €500 million, and a deadline of 26 October for binding offers.

Chief executive Cristóbal Valdés said on 8 October that the company holds a position of global leadership while the sale goes on. The company's EBITDA for the first half of 2026 was €33 million, up 52%, or 23% without a €7 million recovery of US tariffs.

Current origin quotations (Poolred via COAG Jaén, 3 to 9 October):

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO): €3.20/kg
  • Virgin Olive Oil (VOO): €3.01/kg
  • Lampante Olive Oil: €2.93/kg

Greece's olive oil market

AgroTypos reported on 13 October that the Agioi Apostoloi cooperative in Laconia has agreed to sell three tankers of this season's extra virgin at €4.60/kg, and its president, Panagiotis Batsakis, said the buyer may take three more. The cooperative's first sale of the season at €5.95/kg was for 55 tonnes. The Pantanassa cooperative sold 10 tonnes of early-harvest oil at €5.95/kg and then one tanker at €4.60/kg, according to its manager, Evangelos Nikiforos. The buyer and the dates of the deals were not given.

For old-crop oil, the Olivenews price observatory put extra virgin in Greece, Spain and Tunisia at €3.10 to €3.60/kg on 9 October, and Italian extra virgin at about €4.40/kg.

Current quotations (Greece):

  • New-crop EVOO, two Laconian cooperatives: €4.60/kg
  • Old-crop EVOO, Olivenews observatory: €3.10 to €3.60/kg
  • EVOO, Oleista, week 41: €3.66/kg

Portugal's olive oil market

The ministry's SIMA bulletin for week 40, 28 September to 4 October, puts bulk extra virgin at €3.45/kg, down 0.4% on the week. The market office GPP describes the market as under strong pressure from low-priced Tunisian oil, and the bulletin gives no lampante price.

Tunisia's olive oil market

Olive oil exports earned 4,005.7 million dinars from January to September 2026, against 2,915.2 million a year earlier, an increase of 37.4%, according to the national statistics institute (INS). The figure covers the calendar year, not the campaign, and gives no volume. ONAGRI's September export note is not out yet.

No official national forecast for 2026/27 has been published. Midani Dhaoui, president of the farmers' union Synagri, expects 200,000 to 250,000 tonnes, against 500,000 tonnes in 2025/26, without saying whether the figure refers to olives or oil. Abdallah Sahraoui of the olive growers' union expects the olive harvest to fall by 30 to 40%, and in Manouba about 14,000 tonnes of olives for oil are expected, against more than 20,750 tonnes last season.

Turkey's olive oil market

Exporters' association data (EZZİB), cited by Ekonomi Gazetesi columnist Ali Ekber Yıldırım, show olive oil exports of 19,707 tonnes from 1 November 2025 to 30 September 2026, down 60%, worth $105.685 million at an average of $5.36/kg. A season earlier they were 49,159 tonnes worth $243.87 million, at $4.96/kg. The statistics office TÜİK's first estimate for 2026, published in May, put olive production up 55.7%. The olive council UZZK has not yet published its 2026/27 estimate.

Market outlook

The 2025/26 campaign closed with 195,044 tonnes of olive oil in Italian stocks, 46.7% more than a year earlier, while Spanish origin prices for extra virgin were €3.20/kg on Poolred for 3 to 9 October and €3.1/kg on Infaoliva on 13 October. In Greece, new-crop extra virgin from two Laconian cooperatives sold at €4.60/kg, after opening sales at €5.95/kg. A newsletter from the World Olive Oil Exhibition, a trade fair, puts world production for 2026/27 at 3.50 to 3.65 million tonnes and consumption at about 3.25 million tonnes, credited to national ministries it does not name, which is in line with the larger Mediterranean crop expected for 2026/27.

The next figures to watch are AICA's September data with Spain's final 2025/26 carryover, the deadline for binding offers for Deoleo on 26 October, the UZZK estimate for Turkey, usually published in late October, the start of picking in Sidi Bouzid and the Spanish government's decision on Article 167a in the first half of November.
