Berry Market Digest | Week 26, 2026
In Week 26, Spain's main strawberry and early-blueberry campaigns in the south have largely concluded, with strawberry and raspberry volumes falling sharply as blueberry harvesting shifts to northern production areas. Portugal's blueberry harvest is now in full swing, while Greece has exited the market as its berry season comes to an end. Further north, strawberry, raspberry and early blueberry harvests are at their seasonal peak, but adverse weather has tightened supply. Rain across Germany's growing regions and heat in France have reduced domestic strawberry harvests, sending wholesale prices sharply higher.
This report covers berry wholesale activity in four major EU markets: Mercamadrid (Spain), Rungis International Market (France), the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) market reporting system (Germany), and Athens Central Market (OKAA) in Greece.

Strawberries
Strawberry prices are split depending on regional harvests. At Mercamadrid, Spanish strawberries eased to €2.11/kg as the campaign winds down. Volumes more than halved week-on-week to 225 tons.
Northern Europe saw the strongest price gains. In Germany, rain-limited domestic supply in Berlin and München sent prices up to €5.51/kg for German fruit. Belgian lots gained ground at €5.68/kg, while Greek and Spanish fruit left the market.
At France’s Rungis, heat cut French production and prices were revalued to €13.25/kg (+16%). Belgian fruit leapt 74% to €8.48/kg, while waning Spanish supply eased to €3.17/kg.
Greece has finished: OKAA no longer quotes strawberries.

Raspberries
Spain’s raspberry season is almost over. Mercamadrid cleared just 13 tons, from 80 tons a week earlier, and the price eased to €9.60/kg.
At Rungis, the heat cut production across all origins while demand held, so prices were revalued upward. French and other northern fruit now carry the market.
Blueberries
Blueberries were the exception to the firm trend. Prices fell at Rungis because hot weather reduced their shelf life and discouraged buyers, forcing sellers to lower prices.
In Germany, domestically cultivated blueberries remained available, but prices lacked the upward momentum seen in other berry categories.
Blackberries, currants & gooseberries
Blackberries remained a niche line at Mercamadrid, with only a few tonnes traded at €12.00/kg. Redcurrants were scarce, trading near €42.00/kg.
At Rungis, French and Dutch supplies remained limited, while quality was inconsistent.

Looking ahead
- Weather remains the key risk: Continued rain in Germany and heatwaves in France could keep northern berry supplies tight, and prices elevated.
- Northern season in focus: As Spain exits, market direction will increasingly depend on French, German, Belgian and Dutch production.
- Blueberries to watch: Portugal's harvest is gathering pace, but quality concerns in France may continue to pressure prices.
