Urban agriculture, defined as the activity of food production within or around the boundaries of an urban area, could be a way of increasing food production by making use of land that is already available.
This is because it has multiple positive effects both for each individual and for society as a whole. The main objective of urban agriculture is to increase the quantities of food produced, enhancing food security.
Urban agriculture is also a way to supply city markets with fresh food, having little to no negative environmental impact. Storage and transportation needs are usually minimized when it comes to urban agriculture, as the food produced is consumed immediately after production, in close proximity. Finally, urban agriculture promotes social inclusion and supports gender equality, as it can be implemented by any citizen regardless of social status or gender
