Confronting Urgent Agricultural Challenges with Skills & Innovation

Author: Anastasia Vlachou, Project Manager, Rezos Brands S.A.

Europe’s agriculture sector is at a crossroads. Climate change, resource scarcity, fluctuating global markets, and food security concerns are reshaping the way we produce and consume food. At the same time, rapid technological advancement is creating new opportunities—especially for those ready to embrace innovation.

Yet many small- and medium-scale farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, and vocational learners are unequipped to access and apply modern digital tools, such as sensors, data analytics, and precision techniques. A skills gap persists—one that risks leaving behind the very individuals who feed our societies.

This is where BOOST comes in.

Bridging the Digital Gap in Agriculture

Co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme, the BOOST project addresses this digital divide by providing advanced, accessible training in Precision Agriculture (PA), digital innovation, and agribusiness development.

With the full title “BOOSTing agribusiness acceleration and digital hub networking by an advanced training program on sustainable Precision Agriculture”, BOOST connects Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Vocational Education and Training (VET) providers, research and innovation hubs, farmers, and agrifood associations across Europe in a dynamic consortium.

BOOST not only delivers technical knowledge—it builds a culture of innovation, equipping the next generation of agricultural professionals with the tools to lead change and thrive in a digitally driven, sustainable farming sector.

The BOOST Approach

BOOST aims to revolutionize training in the agrifood sector by providing a comprehensive and real-world based educational framework focused on

  • Precision Agriculture technologies
  • Digital transformation
  • Entrepreneurship and agribusiness management
  • International networking and market access

The training content is co-designed with industry players to address real-world challenges and opportunities in agriculture today.

Why BOOST?

BOOST is designed to transform agriculture by bridging the gap between education, research, and industry—empowering learners to become the next generation of Precision Agriculture innovators.

Rather than teaching theory alone, BOOST offers immersive, hands-on training experiences that equip students, young farmers, and agrifood professionals with the tools needed to lead digital and sustainable transitions in agriculture. Participants are introduced to cutting-edge technologies, guided by real-world challenges, and supported by a collaborative ecosystem.

Through this integrated approach, BOOST not only enhances knowledge—it cultivates agripreneurs, fosters cross-sectoral collaboration, and drives the adoption of Agriculture 4.0 practices across Europe.

By integrating Education, Research, and Industry, BOOST provides a fertile ecosystem for learners to develop new business ideas, build strategic networks, and transform agriculture through technology.

A European Alliance for Impact

The project is coordinated by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and implemented by a diverse European consortium of 13 beneficiaries and several associated partners from Greece, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Germany, and Cyprus.

Through its open-access training materials and collaborative model, BOOST creates long-term synergies and contributes to the implementation of EU agricultural policies, including the digital and green transition of the agri-food sector.

Looking Forward

BOOST is more than a training project—it's a movement to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation in agriculture. With a strong emphasis on digital skills, sustainability, and entrepreneurship, BOOST empowers the next generation of farmers and agribusiness leaders to thrive in an era of transformation.
