What is Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA)?

Controlled Environment Agriculture is a method of Agriculture in which humans control some very important parameters for the crop’s success: Air temperature, soil temperature, humidity, duration and type of lighting, and others. The purpose of this form of Agriculture is to utilize scientific data and engineering in order to optimize the plant’s growth, reduce pests and diseases and achieve the maximum yield with the minimum input of energy. Of course, outdoor cultivation without any protection can never be Controlled Environment Agriculture. Controlled Environment Agriculture can be achieved in Greenhouses, Indoor or Vertical Farms, and partially outdoors, but at least with some protection, like tunnel houses.
