On average, how many potato plants shall we space in a hectare (=10.000m2)?
From 25.000 to 60.000 plants per hectare. Of course, you can space as many as you want, but you do not make optimum use of your farm if you space fewer than 15.000 plants per hectare.
Shall we plant potatoes putting the eyes up or down?
It doesn’t matter. Generally new plants sprout from the eyes, so it would make sense for the eye to face upwards. However, planting the potato seed cutting with the eye upwards or downwards has not been found to affect production yield.
How long does it take to grow potatoes?
The very early potato varieties can be harvested 2,5 months from planting. But for the majority of potatoes, it takes on average 4 months (13-18 weeks) from planting till harvest.
