Nick Ligthart is an agronomist engineer specialising in water management, agronomic modelling, remote sensing, and climate-smart agriculture. He holds a Master's degree in International Land and Water Management from Wageningen University & Research, with a thesis on improving the performance of the WOFOST crop simulation model in relation to crop responses to CO2 enrichment. His work combines agronomic knowledge with satellite, weather, and field data to address crop-yield modelling, irrigation requirements, evapotranspiration, and water stress, and includes translating agronomic models into operational data pipelines and APIs. Based in Madrid, he has worked with Agro4Data and AGRODATO on precision agriculture and yield prediction, and previously as a climate consultant and a trained meteorologist. His earlier research covered urban water management in Costa Rica and the integration of cultural and scientific indicators in hydro-climatic information services in Guatemala.
