Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network Global (GCSAYN): Strengthening Global Partnerships for Youth Empowerment and Climate-Smart Innovation

At a time when collaboration is key to addressing global challenges, the Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network Global (GCSAYN) is demonstrating the power of partnerships to drive positive change. Over the past month, GCSAYN has announced a series of groundbreaking collaborations with academic institutions, youth networks, and international organizations — advancing its mission to empower young people, promote sustainable agriculture, and build climate resilience across the world.

GCSAYN and Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) Sign Landmark MoU

On April 11, 2025, GCSAYN and the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote climate-smart agriculture, youth empowerment, and sustainable development in Tanzania and beyond.
This strategic partnership will integrate climate-smart agriculture principles into TIA’s academic curricula, deliver joint capacity-building workshops, and develop community outreach initiatives aligned with Tanzania’s national priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"This partnership reflects our mutual commitment to harnessing the potential of young people in shaping a climate-resilient future," said a GCSAYN spokesperson.
TIA emphasized that this collaboration would enrich its educational and research programs while equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for real-world impact.

TIA now joins the growing list of GCSAYN Centers of Excellence, which includes:

  • Canada: M.A. Gilliam Institute for Global Food Security, McGill University
  • Ethiopia: Hawassa University, Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources
  • Madagascar: Université De l’Itasy (UDI)

These hubs are poised to become leaders in education, research, and climate action, amplifying GCSAYN’s global footprint.

Launch of the GCSAYN Canadian Hub at McGill University

In another major development, GCSAYN has partnered with McGill University’s Margaret A. Gilliam Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) to establish the Canadian Hub — serving as GCSAYN’s North American center.
Formalized in April 2025, this collaboration leverages McGill’s leadership in agricultural and environmental sciences and GCSAYN’s dynamic youth network to foster research, education, and innovation.

Joint initiatives include collaborative research projects, student internships, international exchanges, policy dialogues, and the promotion of youth-led innovations in climate-resilient agriculture.

"We are excited to work alongside GCSAYN to empower the next generation of agricultural leaders and researchers," said Dr. Patrick Cortbaoui, managing director at IGFS.
This partnership particularly advances SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

GCSAYN and IAAS: Uniting Youth to Tackle Global Agricultural Challenges

GCSAYN has also partnered with the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) — the world’s largest student organization in agriculture, active in over 50 countries.
This collaboration focuses on:

  • Promoting climate-smart agriculture
  • Strengthening capacity building through workshops and training
  • Facilitating global networking among young agricultural leaders
  • Driving youth-led policy advocacy on food security and climate resilience

"The future of agriculture is in the hands of the youth," said the Executive Director of GCSAYN. "By combining our expertise with IAAS, we are building a sustainable, food-secure future."

Together, GCSAYN and IAAS will empower students to be at the forefront of agricultural innovation, leadership, and sustainable development.
