About
Andrea Porro has more than 15 years of experience in information Management and Natural Resources Management in humanitarian and development context. His experience encompasses the identification of technological solutions in the domain of information management, monitoring and evaluation, data analyses and decision support system in emergency context, with a focus in conflict and post-conflict areas. His work approach has been founded on Analytical Thinking, Technological Awareness, Innovation and Creativity based on the principle of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL). His approach is based on: a) identifying, defining and analyzing information, situations and problems. Proposing viable solutions through a variety of approaches: critical thought, methodical review of implications, intuition and rational conclusions. b) Challenging established methods and generating/enabling new, innovative solutions, promoting brainstorming, and fostering creativity and reasonable risk-taking. Creating an environment where leaders can emerge. c) Understands the value and power of technology and how to apply it for maximum benefit; sees it as an ongoing aspect of all work; invests time and energy to incorporate it. His working experience includes Country Manager in several assignments for iMMAP a not for profit with leading role in providing Information Management solutions to Line ministries, UN and NGOs, also was Faculty Dean and Professor of Agronomy and Agroecology at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) in Sierra Leone for 2 years. Before his role at the University, he was a consultant for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the course of 3 years, and participated in various projects involving Water and Natural Resources Management in Middle East (Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Palestine). He started his career in agricultural development in the rural context of West Africa (Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone), South America (Brazil – Amazonia area) and Central America (Haiti and Dominican Republic). Dr. Andrea Porro received his MSc in Agricultural Science from University of Milano in 2008 where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. In 2013, he received a Ph.D. in Plant Biology and Production working with rice farmers in Europe and Africa for enhancing production in a sustainable way.
