About
Maria Gerakari is an Agronomist specialized in Plant Breeding. She has a master’s degree in “Innovative Applications in Sustainable Agriculture, Plant Breeding and Agro-Meteorology” and she is a PhD candidate student at the Agricultural University of Athens, at the Faculty of Crop Science in the Laboratory of Plant Breeding and Biometry. She has worked in various research programs such as Legumes4Protein (https://www.legumes4protein.gr/el/). Currently, she is working on ZeroParasitic Project: “Innovative sustainable solutions for broomrapes: prevention and integrated pest management approaches to overcome parasitism in Mediterranean cropping systems”, in collaboration with Benaki Phytopahological Institute (BRI) (https://zeroparasitic.eu/). She is also running her PhD study, funded by the Hellenic Foundation of Research and Innovation (HFRI) (https://www.elidek.gr/en/homepage/), regarding the study of interaction of tomato host plants and the parasitic weeds (Phelipanche spp.) through molecular approaches to unravel genetic material with resistance.
