About
Egli C. Georgiadou received a PhD degree from Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in 2017, and her dissertation work was titled 'Mapping of Biosynthetic Pathway of Vitamin E in Olive (Olea europaea L.)'. During the academic years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 she was the recipient of two competitive scholarships for her PhD dissertation work, given by the A.G. Leventis Foundation. She completed her MSc degree in 2010 at the University of Thessaly on the subject: "Plant Breeding and Modern Crops" with a final grade of 8.87/10, the highest in her class. She holds a BSc degree since 2008 in Agriculture, Crop Production and Rural Environment from the University of Thessaly with grade 7.83/10. During her undergraduate studies she was awarded three scholarships by the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) of Greece for the years 2002-2003, 2003-2004, and 2005-2006. Her research interests include the study of secondary metabolites with antioxidant and pharmaceutical activity of fleshy fruit (grape, olive, tomato, peach, loquat, etc.) with the use of physiological, analytical, enzymatic, and molecular techniques. In addition, I am interested in the responsiveness of culinary herbs (stevia, basil, oregano, etc.) and other plants (tomato, baby spinach, wheat, etc.) to abiotic stress conditions, as well as the evaluation of priming agents that promote growth and enhance plant tolerance against abiotic stress factors (such as drought, salinity, and heat). Her research activities up to date have resulted in 22 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals (h-index = 13), 2 book chapters and 56 abstracts in conference proceedings. She is currently a Post-doctoral Research Associate at CUT (04/2024 – present) for the Horizon Europe project “PrimeSoft: Development of innovative priming technologies safeguarding yield security in soft fruit crops through a cutting-edge technological approach” (Grant No. 101079119). In addition, she is currently teaching fellow/special scientist at CUT and instructor at Organic Horticultural Crops curriculum at Cyprus Public School of Higher Vocational Education and Training (MIEEK). Prior, she was a Post-doctoral Research Associate at CUT (2022-2024) on the research project titled "YieldShield: Sustaining yield security through advanced seed treatments (EXCELLENCE/0421/0462)". Before that, she was a Post-doctoral Research Associate at Kyperounda Winery working on a research project titled "VitiSaroma: Valorization of the reference indigenous grape cultivar 'Xynisteri' under variable vineyard conditions through sensorial analyses and aromatic characterization (POST-DOC/0718/0066)" (2019-2021). This type of project (POST-DOC) is highly competitive and aims to involve young post-doctoral scientists, as herself, in novel research activities. Prior she was a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Agricultural Research Institute (ARI) for the research project "CrITERIA: Cr(VI) Impacted water bodies in the Mediterranean: Transposing management options for Efficient water Resources use through an Interdisciplinary Approach (ΚΟΙΝΑ/ERANETMED/1114/02)" (2017-2019).
