G.R.Maruthi Sankar obtained BA (Statistics, Mathematics & Economics) in 1973; M.Sc (Statistics) in 1975; Ph.D (Multivariate Statistics) in 2000. After qualifying in All India Agricultural Research Service examination of ICAR, joined as Scientist (Statistics) at Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad and worked as Scientist (1976-83); Senior Scientist (1983-98) & Principal Scientist (1998-2014). Worked in Soil Test Crop Response Project (1977-89); Division of Crop Science (1989-2000) & AICRP for Dryland Agriculture (2000-14). After retirement, he worked in Bangalore as Professor (Statistics) in Rai Technology University (2016) & Consultant (Socio-Economics) in World-Bank project at University of Agricultural Sciences (2016-17); & Professor (Statistics) in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore (2018). He worked in different research projects viz., as Principal Investigator in Agro-economic characterization, constraint analysis & delineation of efficient eco-zones using soil & rainfall data in chickpea/pigeonpea based cropping systems; Associate in Assessing soil quality indicators for SQI development under pre-dominant management practices in rainfed agro-ecology. In STCR, he worked as PI in Second-order tests of regression model assumptions, while in Division of Crop Science as PI on Problems of regression models; development of Multiple Selection Index for genotypes; Associate in Improvement of fodder maize genotypes. In AICRPDA, he worked as PI on Assessment of effects of soil & weather parameters on yield; Associate in Tillage & nutrient management strategies; Monitored technical program & research activities; Documented improved technologies. He published 188 papers in Journals; 60 books/bulletins/book-chapters; presented 130 papers in conferences/seminars. His interests are in assessment of input-output relationships; regression & principal component analysis; development of indices for assessing sustainability of yield, monetary returns and soil quality under different agro-ecological regions.
