Abdullah Al Mahmud was born on December 10, 1987, in Barishal, Bangladesh, holds a B.Sc. Ag. (Hons.) from Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Dumki, Patuakhali, obtained in 2010, an M.S. in Environmental Science from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, completed in 2012, and a Ph.D. in Soil Science from the same institution in 2021. He is currently the Research Field Operations Lead at the Plant Growth Core Lab, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. Formerly, he served as a Soil Scientist for the Project Management Consultancy of The Green Riyadh Program, Saudi Arabia, where his duties included providing technical support to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City in the creation of a global standard living laboratory, seed bank, and greenhouse nursery. Before this role, he spent a decade as an Assistant Soil Scientist at the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC). His research interests include micronutrient bio-fortification, evaluating the efficacy of Enhanced Efficiency Fertilizers (EEF), balanced crop nutrition, soil and nutrient management, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, CH4, and N2O) from agricultural fields. With over twelve years of experience, he is a dedicated, detail-oriented professional in research, development, and extension, supporting and overseeing research, crop production, and the construction and operation of greenhouse nurseries, landscapes, and hardscapes. His expertise spans soil fertility, plant nutrition, crop production and protection, precision agriculture, greenhouse gas measurement, and research and extension of technologies. He has evaluated the efficacy of innovative technologies such as enhanced efficiency fertilizers (EEF), urea/fertilizer deep placement (U/FDP), water-saving technologies like drip irrigation and alternate wetting and drying (AWD), micronutrient bio-fortification, nutrient dynamics, and nutrient use efficiency.
