What are the Vegetated (Filter) Strips?

Vegetation strips are narrow lines of vegetation, either natural or sown (grasses, legumes, etc.), which can help prevent erosion, increase organic matter and infiltration of rain, and improve soil quality and biodiversity. These lines of vegetation can be used in orchards but also work well in cereals to prevent the runoff of pollutants (pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers) to the nearby water bodies. These strips can also serve as winter cover, boosters of agrobiodiversity y attracting beneficial insects (e.g., pollinators), as well as food and nesting sites for birds.
