What is rainfed farming or crops?

Rainfed systems or rainfed crops are the ones that rely entirely on rainfalls to cover their water needs. These include both annual crops and permanent/perennial crops (like trees).

Rainfed farming constitutes more than 80% of the world’s cropland and produces more than 60% of the world’s cereal grains. (IWMI, 2007)
