What is (Crop) Residue Management?

Crop residues are materials left in an agricultural field after the crop has been harvested. These residues include stalks and stubble (stems), leaves, and seed pods. Good management of field residues can increase the efficiency of irrigation and control of erosion. This residue can be managed biologically through soil health practices such as no-till, strip-till and cover crops. Healthy soil will break down the residue and crops can be planted directly into the soil through the residue.
