Elaborating the Africa Climate Smart Agriculture Framework (ACSAF 2030) and its Plan of Action

Partners in African agriculture have responded to the effects of climate change on the continent’s food and ag­riculture sector, giving priority to actions aimed at strengthening adaptation to the changes. Actions to mitigate climate change are also undertaken. These adaptation and mitigation actions are, however, not adequately integrated, nor are they coordinated. The need for strengthening coordination and integration of climate change actions is recognized in the Africa Climate Change and Resilient Development Strategy and Action Plan (2022-2032).

In response to this need, FARA and its partners have spearheaded the elaboration of a unifying Africa Climate Smart Agriculture Framework (ACSAF). This framework identifies priority aspects of African agriculture that require attention for Africa’s food and agriculture sector to become “cli­mate smart”. It also identifies the types of practical progress needed in each of the prioritized areas over the next ten years. The ACSAF Plan of Action lays out the investments, programs, and policies needed for African agriculture to evolve in the directions advocated by the Framework.

The main objective of this event is to launch an inclusive process for the elaboration and validation of the ACSAF and its 10-year Plan of Action. The ACSAF aims to streamline implementation and strengthen coordination of climate-smart agriculture actions.
