How good the fruit of the vineyard will be depends on many factors such as: location, sun exposure, soil and microclimatic conditions. At the beginning of the 20th century, King Petar Prvi Karađorđević and his son Aleksandar, on the hill Oplenac near Topola, in central Serbia, built tens of hectares of vineyards and a cellar in which top quality wines were produced. In the immediate vicinity of this wine cellar, there was the Venčačka vinogradarska zadruga, which was distinguished by the production of sparkling wine, and it was one of the largest wineries in the Balkans. During those years, various varieties of grapes were obtained. Nowadays, we can make a division into four basic groups and they are: - Stone grape varieties (for eating) - Wine white grape varieties (for white wines) - Wine red grape varieties (for red and red wines) - Hybrid varieties ( varieties that are not sprayed).
