Profile
Pateo do Morgado Wine , Alentejo, Portugal since1887
Alentejo, November 1887, more precisely in the village of Casa Branca, Alentejo, the Monte do Moinho lands were acquired, where the first vines were planted. In 1914, a new cellar was built, now a century old, recovered and expanded, and which continues with the production of the family's prized wines.
Its original stone presses, over a hundred years old, are still used for fermentation.
The grapes, harvested entirely by hand into small boxes, in order to preserve the quality of the grapes, are processed at night, by the fresh one.
Traditional methods of vinification are used, such as the manual pumping over of the must or the use of a manual press, and the alcoholic fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature.
The noble Alicante Bouschet variety is the choice of red wines.
Planted in Alentejo for the first time around 1900, it produces magnificent experiences here with Cabernet Sauvignon, from twenty-year-old vines, giving rise to Reserva wines.
Rounding out the lot are the red varieties Trincadeira, Aragonês and Castelão, from grapes originating from younger vines.
In 2017, five hectares of new vineyards were added to the planted area.
In the whites, the Antão Vaz variety is king, together with Roupeiro and Arinto, having been introduced here the Verdelho variety, bringing greater freshness and natural acidity.
