Sotirios Fragkostefanakis
Agronomist-Researcher specialized in Plant Molecular Biology
Dr. Sotirios Fragkostefanakis is an Agronomist specialized in Plant Molecular Biology. He has a master’s degree in “Horticultural Genetics and Biotechnology (Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania – CIHEAM)” and a Ph.D. from the Department of Horticulture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). He is currently a Group Leader at the Institute of Biosciences at Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany). He is interested to understand how plants respond to high temperatures and identify the mechanisms that help them survive and recover from stress. His team aims to find and characterize the key regulators of heat stress response, particularly the ones that are related to gene expression and describe their molecular and physiological functions and relevance for thermotolerance. He is member of the EPI-CATCH COST consortium.
