  • It belongs to the Asteraceae or Composite family.
  • Endive is a biennial, loose-headed plant with narrow, curly leaves.
  • There are 2 different types of endive: the curly endive and the broad-leafed endive or escarole.
  • Escarole is a broadleaf type of endive.
  • Both taste slightly bitter, but the endive is more bitter than escarole. 
  • The name endive derives from the Latin “endivia.”
  • Endive The plant is native to the south of Asia (India) or the Mediterranean (Egypt and Greece).
